Though I have already been to Spain last summer, I believe there will be significant differences between the trips. Unlike before, we will be staying in Madrid, a much more cosmopolitan city than Valencia. I expect to see more influences from the rest of the world, and very possibly a little less of a flavor the the Spanish way of life. Cultural interaction tends to muddle one's sense of individuality and cultural/ethnic pride like that, as it did for me last summer beside the waters of the Mediterranean. I will hopefully see some old faces again, but will have to cope with a much smaller group from our school being immersed in a much larger body of students than before. As before, I forsee the Spanish people being as friendly as ever, and hopefully have a few less people giving the "American" treatment to this particular extranjero. Hopefully, more people in Madrid will be a little more understanding of my struggle to cope in a world where my main means of verbal communication is more or less gibberish.
See y'all around the paella soon!
